About the Photographer

Richard Bitonti

As far back as I can remember the outdoor world has been a source of exhilaration, escape, and inspiration for me. Growing up in southern California, I spent weekends and summers exploring Yosemite, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia National Parks. I also spent considerable time along the California coast and hiking the foothills of the eastern Sierra Nevada range. Whether backpacking in Yosemite, scuba diving off Catalina Island, or ice fishing on Lake Sabrina, these experiences have generated a never-ending love for the great outdoors, inspiring me to explore and share America's breathtaking beauty.

The United States is home to some of the most impressive landscapes in the world. For me, the most breathtaking are the rugged mountains, deserts, and coastlines of the western United States. Whether I’m hiking deep in the Grand Canyon, or snowshoeing in the Cascades of Washington state, my love for the west is unmatched. Currently, I live in the Pacific Northwest and spend most of my time photographing the lush canyons of the Columbia River Gorge, the Cascades, and various spots along the Oregon coastline.

Although I have been fascinated by photography since an early age, I really didn’t begin shooting seriously until 2007. Since that time, I’ve been drawn to the work of Galen Rowell, Ansel Adams, and Gary Hart; I do my best to incorporate bits and pieces of their style into my own work. They, as well as others, have been inspirational to me as a landscape photographer.

I hope through my photography I can express a true appreciation for the absolute beauty and wonder found in the world around us. I do my best to capture that perfect moment in time, a moment few will ever see, of a world that is ever changing, and display it in a way that will leave the viewer breathless and in awe.
